Project Brief
The BBC commissioned our agency to transcribe, translate, and provide English subtitles for a documentary aimed at British viewers. The project’s goal was to make the documentary accessible to a broader audience by accurately translating the dialogue and ensuring clear, synchronised English subtitles.
The Challenge
Our transcription and subtitling services enabled the BBC to deliver a well-localised documentary to British audiences, ensuring that the story was accurately conveyed while maintaining the original tone and intent of the content.
Key Deliverables
- Precise transcription and translation of the documentary’s dialogue, capturing the essence of the source content.
- High-quality, readable English subtitles that were timed to sync seamlessly with the documentary’s visuals and audio.
- Subtitles that ensured accessibility for British viewers, adhering to BBC’s standards for clarity and compliance.
The Skills Used to Complete this Project
Translation
Language skills were used to enable us to translate the documentary into English in a way that can be understood by the local audience.
Transcription
Producing a word-by-word transcript of the spoken language on the documentary enabled us to review the translated text in its entirety before beginning the process of editing and localisation.
Subtitling
Ensuring that the subtitles in English were added in time with the non-English audio in order to provide an easy and enjoyable user experience was essential.
Research
In addition to language skills, it was important to research and gain an understanding of the history of the topic and importance in the country’s culture so that we could produce an engaging and authentic translation in the target language.
